Introduction by Principal Cheng

Hello everyone! I am Principal Cheng Ka-yee!

I have dedicated over thirty years to early childhood education, having previously served as a special needs educator. This educational journey has been filled with gratitude and joy. The solid foundation and framework of our kindergarten rely on the Father's protection and the seeds of grace sown along the way. With the recognition from the industry and the trust and support of parents towards our staff, I have been able to contribute my efforts to the early education field. With faith and perseverance, I work diligently for the welfare of children, nurturing hope and aspiration in early childhood education.

I have been invited to lead teams in a series of teaching curriculum promotion activities and have served as a keynote speaker at events such as "Creative Science—Experiments Made Simple," "Dynamic Learning and Teaching Expo—Fun Science Activities," and "Life Learning in Macau Press Conference—Sharing Classroom Practice Experiences." Subsequently, I published the "Teacher Resource Handbook: Little Scientists—Big Discoveries," sharing outcomes with the industry. I am also honored to have been invited to become a member of the "CNOPE Non-Profit Early Childhood Education Organization—Promotion and Publicity Team," and since 2012, I have served as a committee member of the "Hong Kong Early Childhood Educators Association," striving for the welfare of the early education sector and advocating for policy and development directions to the government.

Additionally, I have participated in the course internal review work for the Early Childhood Education and Social Welfare Services Departments at the University of Hong Kong's School of Professional and Continuing Education and the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Sha Tin). I have also been involved in the "Young Alumni Protégé Program" of the VTC Alumni Affairs Group and the "Love Inheritance Mentor Program" of the VTC Alumni Association. During this time, I have been interviewed by various early childhood education organizations, newspapers, and magazines, and have served as a keynote speaker at information days such as the "VTC Human-centered Professional Development Seminar," "VTC Early Childhood Education Employment Seminar," and "Ming Pao JUMP—Recruitment and Continuing Education Day for Nursing, Social Welfare, and Education." I hope to guide junior colleagues and new teachers in their journey in early education with my own experiences.

I cherish every opportunity for learning and growth. I hold a Master’s degree in Education, a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, a Kindergarten Principal Certificate, a Diploma in Drama Studies, a Diploma in Western Arts, a Certificate in Horticultural Management, a Certificate in Special Needs Education, an Executive Certificate (Workplace Conflict and Mediation), a Basic Psychological Support Skills Certificate, a Suicide Awareness and Intervention Training Certificate, a Sixteen Personality Types (MBTI) and Decision-Making Model Certificate, a recognized qualification for Emotional Guidance Parenting Programs, a Children and Youth Fitness Coach Certificate, a Nutrition and Weight Control Certificate, a Junior Training Certificate for Cub Scouts, a Tour Guide and Outdoor Leader License, a Comprehensive Certificate for Safety and Health Supervisors (Social Services), a Basic Community Infection Prevention Certificate, and a First Aid and AED Certificate.

To continually enhance my professional skills and leadership abilities, I have participated in early childhood education study tours in Macau, mainland China (Shenzhen, Panyu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Anji in Zhejiang, and Gansu), and Taiwan to optimize school-based curricula. During these journeys, I visited many unique kindergartens, vocational schools, and East China Normal University, participated in numerous seminars and lectures, and even arranged for experts to come to Hong Kong for guidance, which has provided profound insights and benefits for reflecting on and planning early education reforms.
